Family Films

A collection of tons and tons of kids and family films . Many of these will be found on Netflix, Amazon Prime,  YouTube, Sky Movies or Virgin. If you don’t subscribe to these streaming services, or they don’t have the film, then YOUTUBE may have it for a small fee, or, even, maybe free

• • U – E.T.,  THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL – one of my all time favourites and one I can watch time and time again – and still hold my breath at some scenes. Who couldn’t love the oh-so cute ET and his best friend Elliot who helps him connect with his outer space family and finally return home.
  • PG – MOANA – a fiery, young polynesian girl sets out to save the islanders with the help of Maui, a friendly demi-god.
  • PG – BEAUTY & THE BEAST – a traditional fairy story featuring a beautiful young girl who falls for the beast.
  • PG – ZOOTROPOLIS – older cop/young cop retold with the help of cute, funny animated characters.
  • PG – HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON SERIES – instead of hunting dragons, young Viking, HIccup, befriends Toothless and together they become a fearsome duo.
  • PG – WONDER – a heart warming story of a young boy with facial problems as he starts main stream school.
  • 12A SCHOOL OF ROCK – Jack Black creating mayhem in a strait laced private school where he encourages his pupils in their rock’n’roll ambitions.
  • PG TANGLED – based on the ever popular Rapunzel fairy tale, Tangled recounts the adventures of the red-haired heroine.
  • U – HOWL’S MOVING CASTLE – this was a surprising hit in 2004 as kids and adults really loved this movie about a young girl, a witch and a spell.
  • PG – FROZEN – a run away success in 2013 with all ages with it’s compelling story line and witty dialogue. The snowy franchise continues with Frozen 3 expected in 2027.
  • PG – ELF – the best Christmas film with Will Ferrell as Buddy, the lovable giant Elf running free in the real world.

• • PG – THE LION KING – Simba, a young lion prince, flees his kingdom after the murder of his father, Mufasa. Years later, a chance encounter with Nala, a lioness, causes him to return and take back what is rightfully his.
  • PG – MONSTERS, INC FILM SERIES – the very lovable, not scary, monsters in a 3 film franchise. Follow the comic adventures of Mike, Sully and Boo.

• • U – DESPICABLE ME  – There are now 4 films in this very funny animated franchise with Steve Carrell, Al Pacino and the rest of the Despicable Me crew return for another block buster family movie. Evil Gru and his little yellow minnions (who rumour as it are actually getting their own movie) return to fight an even more villainous villain. Kids animated film.

• • 12A – MAN OF STEEL – Superman returns and this time we get the back story of what really happened on the planet Krypton.

• • 12A – AFTER EARTH – Everyone’s favourite actor Will Smith stars in this epic family movie, with his son Jaden who do battle with the elements in this sci-fi drama..

• • 12A – IRON MAN 3 – Robert Downy Jr returns for the third time with the popular Iron Man, this time with Gwyneth Paltrow as his love interest and Ben Kingsely as the dastardly Manderin.

• • U – ALL STARS – Feel good family film as a group of teenagers try to save their youth club by putting on a talent show before the demolition men move in.

• • U – THE ODD LIFE OF TIMOTHEY GREEN – A charming story of how Timothy Green enters a childless couples’ life after they’ve written down all the traits that they would have loved in a son or daughter and buried it in the garden.

• • 12A – – JACK THE GIANT SLAYER – The children’s favourite fairy story brought bang up to date with fantastic animation. Jack unwittingly unleashes a war between the giants and his existing world.

• • U – THE CROODS – From Dreamworks an animated comedy adventure set in prehistoric times. When an earthquake strikes the cave dwelling Croods need to find somewhere else to live.

• • PG – OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL – For lovers of The Wizard of Oz a prequel that tells the story of The Wizard and how he came to land in Oz. Family film.

• • PG – WRECK IT RALPH – Children’s animated film featuring Ralph, with cameos from Pac-Man, Sonic and Bowser. Can the baddie, Ralph, transform into the good guy and save arcade game characters from the advances of a terrifying enemy.

• • PG – RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET – The sequel brings Ralph and Vanellope back together again on a journey through the internet, with catastrophic results – great family film

• • PG – THE GOONIES – Mikey and his pals try to thwart the bad guys from taking his home – all the have to do is find hidden treasure – simple!!

• • U – PARENTAL GUIDANCE – Family film starring favourites Billy Crystal and Bette Midler trying to instil old fashioned grandparent values on 3 unruly grandchildren.

• • PG – LIFE OF PI – Based on the best selling book, this magical film for kids and families, sees one young boy shipwrecked and adrift on the ocean with only a Bengal Tiger for company. 

• • PG – HOME ALONE 1, 2, 3 and 4 – If the weather get’s bad why not binge watch the Home Alone films – see which one you think is the best

• • 12A -THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY– The much awaited prequel to the Lord of The Rings featuring many of the same cast, as Bilboa Baggins seeks out The Ring.

• • U – TINKER BELL AND THE SECRET OF WINGS – A film for little girls everywhere. Perennial favourite Tinker Bell embarks on an adventure to the Mysterious Winter Woods to discover an amazing secret.

• • PG – RISE OF THE GUARDIANS – Family animation adventure. Santa, Jack Frost and the Tooth Fairy must join forces to battle the evil Pitch, who is making children’s lives miserable.

• • U – NATIVITY FILM SERIES – Primary school teacher Paul, is out of his depth when his young pupils go up against a posh school in a singing contest of the Nativity Play. Can he get his ex-girlfriend – a Hollywood hotshot, to come and see it. 

• • PG -MADAGASCAR FILM SERIES – The central characters in this children’s animated comedy, have decided to pack their African trunks and head to New York, via Europe – but not without some adventures on the way.

• • PG – HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA SERIES – Hotel Transylvania is just for monsters, where they can hide from the cruel humans! Animated family comedy, which shouldn’t really scare the kids!

• • PG – SPIDER-MAN MOVIES – a computer animated Spiderman film which is spectacularly colourful and impressive and some say the best Spiderman film ever. 

• • U – DIARY OF A WIMPY KID FILM SERIES – Wimpy Greg returns for a third time and spends a humiliating summer enduring mishap after mishap. Family comedy.

• • PG – BRAVE – From Disney Pixar the story of headstrong Scottish Princess Merida, who defies convention and inadvertently unleashes chaos on her kingdom.

• • U – THE LORAX – Based on Dr Seuss’s children’s book, The Lorax is brought to the big screen to entertain all the family, starring Danny De Vito. 

• • U – ICE AGE ANIMATED MOVIES – Children’s animated movie, also in 3D with the return of lovable Manny, Diego and Sid.

• • 12A – SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN – Action adventure with plenty of thrilling effects in the reworking of this classic fairy tale, stars a whole host of British actors as the dwarves. Good Family Fun

• • 12A – MOONRISE KINGDOM– Starring Bruce Willis and a host of stars in the search for 2 young kids who run away together into the wilderness as a huge storm is brewing.

• • PG – MEN IN BLACK SERIES – Agents J and K are back with another fun family film and whole new cast of quirky Aliens to monitor, plus travelling back in time to avert the death of Agent K. Starring Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin. 

• • 12A – MARVELS AVENGERS ASSEMBLE -Family blockbuster action film which brings together all the Marvel Comic Heroes – The Hulk, Thor, Iron Man and Captain America to fight Loki who intents to take over the world – great film for kids of all ages.

• • 12A – THE HUNGER GAMES FRANCHISE – Futuristic film, based on the children’s best selling books, where poorer kids battle to the death in a televised reality contest.

• • PG – STREET DANCE 2 – Following on from the hit UK movie, the search for the best Street dancers goes worldwide.

• • U – PIRATES: IN AN ADVENTURE WITH SCIENTISTS – Children’s animated comedy from the makers of Wallace and Gromit. Can the pirates win the Pirate of the Year? they’re up against some unscrupulous opponents.

• • PG – MIRROR MIRROR – When Snow White’s evil stepmother takes over her kingdom and banishes her to the woods, she is forced to team up with a ragtag bunch of seven dwarfs to take back what’s rightfully hers.

• • 12A – WRATH OF THE TITANS – A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus—the demigod son of Zeus—is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year old son.

• • PG – WE BOUGHT A ZOO – Heart warming true life story about a single dad who unwittingly moves his family to the country, and discovers he’s bought a zoo.

• • 12A CHRONICLE – Three high school friends stumble upon a discovery that empowers them with superhuman powers. What begins as fun and games soon turns into a dark nightmare as they lose control over themselves.

• • 12A – EXTREMELY LOUD & INCREDIBLY CLOSE – Moving family drama starring Tom Hanks. When Oskar’s dad dies he continues to solve the last puzzle his father left, a game they enjoyed whilst he was alive.

• • PG – JOURNY 2: THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND – The new journey begins when young adventurer Sean (Josh Hutcherson) receives a coded distress signal from a mysterious island where no island should exist—a place of strange life forms, mountains of gold, deadly volcanoes, and more than one astonishing secret.

• • U – ALVIN & THE CHIPMUNKS FAMILY ANIMATED MOVIE SERIES – Join Alvin and the Chipmunks on a luxury cruise – where it all goes wrong!

• • U – HUGO – Kids family movie from Martin Scorsese, Hugo lives secretly in a train station and has to solve they mystery his late father left him.

• • U- ARTHUR CHRISTMAS – How does Santa manage to visit all the children? Easy he has 18 million elves.

• • PG – THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN – Tintin and his friends discover directions to a sunken ship commanded by Capt. Haddock’s ancestor and go off on a treasure hunt.

• • PG – JOHNNY ENGLISH MOVIE SERIES – After a disastrous mission in Mozambique, British agent Johnny English (Rowan Atkinson) has retreated to a Tibetan monastery to try to forget his shame. But when he receives an urgent call from MI-7 to lead a mission that only he can handle, English is back in action.

• • 12A – COWBOYS & ALIENS – Starring Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford a lone cowboy holds the key to winning the fight against Alien invaders.

• • 12A -PLANET OF THE APES FILMS – At last we get to know how the Apes became to rule the world and how they gained their super intelligence.

• • 12A – SUPER 8 – A group of kids witness a spectacular crash while filming a Super 8 zombie movie, they are soon involved in a town mystery – family blockbuster.

• • PG – MR POPPER’S PENGUINS – New York resident, Jim Carey, discovers he has inherited 6 penguins and the only solutions is to make his apartment into a liveable habitat for them – much to the dismay of his neighbours – family comedy.

• • PG – ZOOKEEPER – Kevin James plays the hapless zookeeper who can’t woo the love of his life because of his job. When he decides to leave the animals join forces to help him with his love life. 

• • PG – HORRID HENRY: THE MOVIE – Horrid Henry, the perpetual naughty schoolboy, pits his wits against horrible headmaster, Richard E Grant, in this 3D family movie.

• • 12A – CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER – With the help of a super serum weedy Steve is transformed into Captain America to help thwart the HYDRA organisaton.

• • 12A – HARRY POTTER MOVIES – Harry, Ron and Hermione set out on their perilous mission to track down and destroy the Horcruxes the keys to Voldemort’s immortality. On their own, without the guidance or protection of their professors, the three friends must now rely on one another more than ever.

• • U – CARS 2 – The much awaited sequel to Cars. This time the action takes place in Europe and Japan as Lightning McQueen and his new friends become entangled in international espionage – excellent family movie.

• • 12A – TRANSFORMERS FILM SERIES – A mysterious event from Earth’s past threatens to ignite a war so big that the TRANSFORMERS™ alone will not be able to save the planet.

• • 12A – THE GREEN LANTERN – The police force of the Universe, the Green Lanterns, face a new enemy and need the help of human, Hal Jordan.

• • 12a X MEN: FIRST CLASS – Back to the 60’s and how it all began. The rift and subsequent bitter war between the X-Men and Magneto

• • PG – KUNG FU PANDA FILM SERIES – Po, Kung Fu Panda, now faces a new enemy, the dastardly albino peacock, Lord Shen. Family comedy animation, with old and new characters. 

• • 12A – PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN FRANCHISE SERIES – Captain Jack Sparrow sets sail in search of the legendary fountain of youth. His mission puts him up against a mysterious woman from his past, old enemy Barbossa and the feared pirate, Blackbeard.

• • 12A – TOMORROW WHEN THE WAR BEGAN – Smash hit Australian children’s film – 8 teenagers are left to fight the foreign invasion of their home town. 

• • U – RIO 1 AND 2 FILMS – A couple or rare birds need to thwart nasty poachers with the help of their feathered friends. Family feel-good move.

• • PG – RANGO – Who doesn’t love a chameleon, especially with the voice of Johnny Depp – hilarious family comedy with some promising special effects

• • PG – BIG MOMMA’S HOUSE – FBI agent Malcolm specialises in disguising himself beyond recognition. This time, he transforms into an old lady to get hold of a bank robber who will visit his ex-girlfriend.

• • U – YOGI BEAR – Hard to believe that Yogi and Boo Boo are over 50 years old and still causing mayhem in Jellystone Park. Family and kids comedy from Warner Brothers.

• • U – GNOMEO & JULIET – A home grown animated, family cartoon with the voices of James McAvoy and Emily Blunt and a host of well know British actors who bring Romeo and Juliet to the world of garden gnomes.  

• • PG – GULLIVER’S TRAVELS – larger than life Jack Black, starring as Gulliver, who finds himself a giant in the land of the little people, Lilliput, based on the world famous children’s story. 

• • U – ANIMALS UNITED – A rare kids animated film – made in the UK with the voices of British favourites, James Corden, Dawn French and Jim Broadbent. Set on the African Delta this is rollicking family film following the exploits of a friendly group of animals.

• • PG – CHRONICLES OF NARNIA FILM SERIES – the continuing saga of Lucy’s and Edmund’s adventures in Narnia – this 3rd instalment finds them once again battling mystical creatures and meeting up with old friends.

• • PG – MEGAMIND – Megamind is a kids Superhero comedy film – with the voices of Will Ferrel and Brad Pitt – Megamind is a failed, wannabe super villain – will he become the good guy when a true super villain enters the fray? 

• • 12A – THE HOLE – A supernatural 3D film for the whole family to enjoy. Brothers, Dane and Lucas, discover a trapdoor in their new home, which houses a ‘bottomless’ hole, from which paranormal forces escape.
    PG – THE LAST AIRBENDER – With explosive special effects, a family film based on the successful TV series. Air, Water, Earth and Fire young Aang discovers he has the powers to manipulate them all in his quest for good over evil.
    U – MARMADUKE – The family who own Marmaduke, a large, lovable, Great Dane move to California where they all encounter problems – can Marmaduke save the day? Family comedy.
    PG – LEMONY SNICKET: A SERIES OF UNORTUNATE EVENTS – A thrilling misadventure involving three ingenious orphans and a villainous actor named Count Olaf (Jim Carrey) who wants their enormous fortune.” It includes a suspicious fire, delicious pasta, Jim Carrey, poorly behaved looches, Billy Connolly, an incredibly deadly viper, Meryl Streep, and the voice of an imposter named Jude Law.
    PG – THE SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS MOVIES – A yellow sea sponge named SpongeBob SquarePants lives in the city of Bikini Bottom deep in the Pacific Ocean. He works at the Krusty Krab restaurant and is friends with a starfish named Patrick.  

• • PG – BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA – A rich city girl, Leslie, and a poor country boy, Jess, create Terabithia, a land of magical beings, and become its rulers. This helps Jess to escape and cope with a tragedy.

• • U – SHREK FILM SERIES – Shrek (Mike Myers) goes on a quest to rescue the feisty Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) with the help of his loveable Donkey (Eddie Murphy) and win back the deed to his swamp from scheming Lord Farquaad.

• • 12 – FIREHOUSE DOG – Top Hollywood Dog, Rex has to rough it when he gets lost and finds a new owner and home at a rundown fire station in this feel good family film.

• • PG – SURF’S UP MOVIES – family animated comedy film – a ‘documentary on how Penguins invented surfing’

• • PG – EVAN ALMIGHTY – blockbuster comedy from the team that made Bruce Almighty – this time it involves lots of animals – 2 of each and a flood.

• • PG – RATATOUILLE – Remy, a rat, aspires to become a renowned French chef. He doesn’t realise that people despise rodents and will never enjoy mer day camp for children to provide them with the luxuries they never experienced. However, they soon face foreclosure and have to enlist outside help to keep it afloat. Cuba Gooding Jnr and Paul Rae star in this children’s film.
    PG – ENCHANTED – Princess Giselle is banished from her kingdom by her lover’s evil stepmother. She is then transported to the real world where she meets a lawyer and finds herself falling for him.

• • PG – THE WATERHORSE: LEGEND OF THE DEEP – A young boy hatches an enchanted egg which eventually becomes the mythical Lock Ness Monster. Family Fantasy

• • U – THE GAME PLAN – staring Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) as a dedicated ‘superstar American footballer’ batchelor who’s life is turned upside down by the arrival of his 7 year old daughter – Family Comedy

• • PG – THE SPIDERWICK CHRONICLES – Twin brothers Jared and Simon Grace move into Spiderwick Estate with their mother and sister. Once there, they find themselves surrounded by magical creatures. Kids fantasy adventure film.
    U – NIM’S ISLAND – A young girl is stranded on a mystery island when her father suddenly disappears, reclusive author – Jodie Foster – joins her in this family comical fantasy adventure.

• • 12 – INDIANA JONES FILM SERIES  – Indy could very well make one of the most spectacular archaeological finds in history – the Crystal Skull of Akator, a legendary object of fascination, superstition and fear. Swashbuckling family adventure.

• • 12 – THE INCREDIBLE HULK – kicks off an all-new, explosive and action-packed epic of one of the most popular superheroes of all time.

• • PG – JOURNEY TO THE CENTRE OF THE EARTH – another remake of this family favourite with Brendan Fraser. On a quest to find his missing brother they stumble upon the lost world in the centre of the earth and have amazing adventures on their mission to return.
    U – WALL-E – A machine responsible for cleaning a waste-covered Earth meets another robot and falls in love with her. Together, they set out on a journey that will alter the fate of mankind.

• • PG – THE LAST MIMZY – What strange powers are the kids getting from their new box of ‘toys’, and what exactly is Mimzy!! – children’s sci adventure.
    PG – MONSTER HOUSE – Three teenagers discover that their neighbour’s house is actually a monster that hates children. They then decide to destroy the heart of the house and kill it.

• • PG – TOY STORY FILM SERIES – The original and ground breaking Toy Story where we are introduced to Woody and Buzz Lightyear and the rest of Andy’s toys.

• • U – INSIDE OUT 1 & 2 – Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Warm hearted family film.

• • PG – PADDINGTON FAMILY MOVIES – A young bear who can walk and talk travels to London from from the jungles of Peru. There, he is adopted by the Brown family and goes through many adventures in the big city

• • U – CHICKEN RUN MOVIES – Rocky, a rooster, and Ginger, a chicken, decide to escape from a chicken farm when they learn that their owner is plotting to have them killed. Kids animation film.

• • PG – THE PRINCESS BRIDE – An established favourite from 1987. A fairy tale adventure about a beautiful young woman and her one true love. He must find her after a long separation and save her. They must battle the evils of the mythical kingdom of Florin to be reunited with each other.
    PG – THE IRON GIANT – A boy befriends an innocent alien, who resembles a gigantic robot. A paranoid governmental agent, however, desires to obliterate the alien.
    U – BABE – Babe is the inspirational story of a shy Yorkshire piglet who doesn’t quite know his place in the world. But when Farmer Hoggett wins him at the county fair, Babe discovers that he can be anything he wants to be – even an award-winning sheepdog!
    PG – STUART LITTLE – Join the fun when the Little family adopts an adorably spunky boy named Stuart, who looks a lot like a mouse. Mr. and Mrs. Little fall in love with Stuart right away, but their older son, George (Jonathan Lipnicki), isn’t so sure, neither is the cat!
