Chlldren Blown Out To Sea In Toy Dinghies
Thursday 29 July 2010
Yesterday, children playing in two dinghies off the shore at Leven Beach, Fife, were blown out to sea. One dinghy made it back to shore unaided, but the Kinghorn RNLI inshore lifeboat had to be launched to rescue 2 children, one of whom had to be treated in hospital
Steve Higgins, Watch Manager at Forth Coastguard said
“Although a rope was attached to the small dinghy it was allowed to drift out to sea and once the wind took control of the dinghies their rate of drift out to sea increased dramatically.
“We’re advising all parents and carers to be very, very careful when allowing their youngsters to play in lilos or dinghies when the weather forecast suggest winds blowing out to sea. Make sure you listen to the weather forecast before heading to the beach, and keep a careful eye on your children at all times.”
