THINGS TO DO ON A RAINY DAY

  • Activity Village - Kids Crafts - a lovely long list of craft ideas for kids, some British and some American but all lots of fun.

  • Bored Kids Web Site - a very basic website but still worth a look to check out child friendly recipes, things to do, places to go
  • Calendars - this is a wonderful idea. Why not get the kids involved in making calendars for gifts? You can use the images provided or upload your own
  • CBeebies I Can Cook - make the yummy recipes seen on screen. Ideas for tasty savoury dishes and healthy puds.
  • CBeebies Things To Do - a collection of craft ideas for children arranged by theme, TV show and recommended picks so you're never stuck for an activity.
  • Colour by Numbers - a fun little boredom buster that's quick to prepare. Print out the sheet and follow the numbers to create mini masterpieces.
  • Connect the Dots - another quick and easy activity for little ones that you can reach for at a moments notice. Connect the dots then colour the picture.
  • Cool Science - explore biology both online and in the real world with a carefully chosen projects. This is science for cool kids.
  • Door Knob Hangers - we're not ashamed to say we loved testing this activity and your children will definitely enjoy this craft idea.
  • Download A Dinosaur - download the shape then paint it and construct your dinosaur. I'm off to make myself a fiercesome Tyrannosaurus Rex. 
  • Enchanted Learning - this American site is packed full with craft ideas for kids and boredom busters to keep all ages happy. 
  • Funroom - you can't shop at this site as they only deliver with in the US but there are plenty of free craft ideas and recipes to try out.
  • Libraries - many libraries have free drop in craft sessions for younger children and special fun days so check out your local libraries and see what's available.
  • Making Friends - more american craft ideas for pre schooler kids. Take the time to dig deeper and uncover some great boredom buster activites.
  • Online Fuzzy Felt - a cyber update for the fuzzy classic which appeals to us as we spent many a happy hour playing with the real thing as children.
  • Paper Airplanes - Alex's website with step by step paper airplane instructions - kids still love these. There's a guide for making a paper helicopter too.
  • Paper Snowflakes - still the same fold and tear technique but with pattern ideas to take the guess work out of it. Great Christmas craft idea for kids.
  • Show Me - listings of events and children's activities in museums and galleries around the country. Find out what fun stuff is happening near you.
  • Solar System Simulator - NASA lets you experience the wonder of a planetarium in your own home ... great for older kids.
  • Try Science At Home - when you've chosen your experiment click the Try It Offline button for full instructions. Should keep older children enthralled. 
  • Gather together some bandages or toilet rolls and let your children be the doctor while you are the patient.
  • Visit the supermarket and stock up on cardboard boxes - make houses, castles, cars or shops and paint on them or add collage pieces to them.
  • Let the kids loose with your old make-up, jewellery and clothes for a fun dress up session then they can perform a play for you.
  • Play hide and seek, scavenger hunt, I-spy (use colours for little 'uns)
  • Check out the local leisure centre and Sure Start for children's activities.
